The service will work in two ways; AMZN will offer a subscription service, where a flat fee is paid to view movies over a certain time period. Additionally, users can select programming on a pay-per-view basis.

11:28 AM UPS Delivers a Disappointment

One of the biggest earnings disappointments today is United Parcel Service (NYSE:UPS) , which trimmed its earnings growth outlook looking forward. The package-delivery concern said it banked 97 cents per share Cents per share

, or $1.06 billion, in the second quarter, up from $986 million (88 cents per share) in the year-ago period. Revenue rose 15 percent during the reporting period to $11.74 billion. Analysts were expecting per-share results of $1.00 and $11.61 billion in sales. Looking forward, UPS officials expect third-quarter results of 87 cents to 91 cents per share, below the consensus view of 97 cents. Additionally, the company said 2006 earnings growth would be toward the lower end of its original 11-to-16 percent outlook.

UPS shares plunged lower out of the gate and have continued to slide into the red. In midday action, the stock is off more than 15 percent. This drop has taken the stock below its 10-month and 20-month moving averages, below which UPS has not endured a monthly close since September 2005. Federal Express (NYSE:FDX) shares are sliding lower in sympathy, dropping nearly four percent but clinging precariously to their 10-month moving average.

Options players have descended upon the company's short-term calls, with notable volume at the now out-of-the-money August 70 and 75 strikes. Activity is also brewing in the January 2007 series, especially at the 75 and 80 strikes. Put action is lively as well, with nearly 11,000 contracts trading hands at the January 2007 65 strike.
