While the number of EXP shares sold short plunged 20 percent in July, more than 10 percent of the security's float is still sold short. Meanwhile, today's rally has brought the equity back into contention with former resistance at the 40 level. This round-number level has served as both resistance and support in the past for the shares and could once again reject EXP. What's more, the 40 level is home to the stock's 80-week moving average, adding yet another layer of resistance to this region.

McDonald's: This morning, McDonald's (NYSE:MCD) posted quarterly earnings of 67 cents per share, thumping the consensus estimate of 58 cents per share. The shares gapped higher on the open, but have quickly retreated and are now under resistance at the 35 level once again. This region has hindered the equity's rally attempts since September 2005. What's more, this strike is the site of peak August call open interest, with more than 13,300 contracts. With the stock failing to take out long-term resistance on strong earnings news, it appears that MCD may face some additional losses.
