Schaeffer's Top and Bottom Ranked Stocks for Tuesday, May 24, 2005: KB Home - Ranking 8.0 KB Home (NYSE:KBH) is a top U.S. homebuilder, with an average home price of $206,500. KBH has been a proven outperformer for nearly a year, rallying solidly higher since last August. Recently, the stock has rebounded back above support from its 10-week and 20-week moving averages. KBH shares have also overcome potential support near the 63 mark, site of the equity's March peak. With all of the fear setting in over a possible "housing bubble," KBH and its peers have been treated of late like they are haunted. The stock's SOIR SOIR Schaeffer's Put/Call Open Interest Ratio SOIR Simultaneous Operations on Intersecting Runways has spiked up over the past few weeks and now stands at 1.68, just two percent shy of an annual peak. Additionally, short interest surged 11 percent during the latest reporting period to 9.93 million, or the highest reading since April 2003. More than 12.5 percent of the stock's float is now sold short, and it would take about a week for these positions to be eradicated, should the short sellers grow tired of watching their positions lose value. Only Wall Street is supportive of KBH, and even the analyst community has its share of skeptics. Of the 11 analysts following KBH, seven have named it a "buy" or better, leaving three "holds" and one "sell" rating. Thanks to solid price action and a historically loft SOIR, KBH has earned a Scorecard grade of 8.0. Intel - Ranking 8.0 Chip-leader Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) was the focus of some chatter yesterday, as a Wall Street Journal article reported that INTC could be in talks with Apple Computer (AAPL AAPL Apple Computer, Inc. (stock symbol) AAPL American Association of Professional Landmen AAPL American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law AAPL Advance Audiovisual Presentation Limited AAPL Advocates for Arkansas Public Libraries ), the end result of which could be INTC technology in the Macintosh line. Outpacing many of its large-cap technology peers, INTC has rallied 22 percent since April 15, moving sharply higher along support from its 10-day moving average. The stock has easily traversed above the 25.50 level, which battered the shares lower in early March. While the shares have been spiking higher, the SOIR for INTC has also maintained an upward trajectory, rallying since late April in a counter-intuitive fashion. The Schaeffer's Equity Scorecard enables its users to evaluate any of almost 2,000 stocks in terms of 10 powerful sentiment, technical, and fundamental indicators. The scorecard, which utilizes a proprietary ranking system, also provides a weighed average composite score that can be used to grade equities in a clear and concise manner. A ranking greater than five indicates a potentially bullish (long) trading opportunity, as this security is exhibiting signs of technical strength against a backdrop of heavy investor skepticism. On the other hand, readings below five represent a potential bearish (short) trading opportunity, as these equities lag the market, yet investors maintain high hopes for the stock.
