Schaeffer's S&P 500 Index Hot Stocks for Friday, January 13, 2006:

A daily feature available on SchaeffersResearch.com is the "SPX (Sequenced Packet EXchange) The transport layer protocol in the NetWare operating system. Similar to the TCP layer in TCP/IP, it ensures that the entire message arrives intact. SPX uses NetWare's IPX as its delivery mechanism.  Hot Stocks" column. Each afternoon, we will provide a list of the day's top-20 performing stocks in the S&P 500 Index (SPX - 1,283.71) as well as the bottom-20 names. Featured along with this table will be news that is moving some of the securities.

NOTE: Stocks trading under $5 per share have been eliminated from this listing of the top-20 and bottom-20 performing stocks.

Continuing with my famous "someone said them" lines, I turn to the scientific principle, what goes up must go down. Without turning to the incredible search power available on the Internet that lies at my fingertips "Fingertips" is a 1963 number-one hit single recorded live by "Little" Stevie Wonder for Motown's Tamla label. Wonder's first hit single, "Fingertips" was the first live, non-studio recording to reach number-one on the Billboard Pop Singles chart in the United States. , I can say with relative certainty that those words were uttered by Sir Isaac Newton. Well, the past five days for the major market indices have illustrated that example perfectly. The SPX has extended its losses as we turn to the final hours of trading, despite good news on wholesale inflation data. Of the 500 components in the SPX, 46 percent of them (228) have dropped.

RadioShack (NYSE:RSH) announced yesterday that it won't reach its forecast profit range of $2.14 to $2.24 per share. Then the shack daddy wouldn't specify an updated earnings target for the full year. Total sales for the company did increase, coming in five percent higher than the last quarter of 2004 and five percent higher than full-year 2004. The bottom line is that total sales for the quarter came in at $1.67 billion and full-year sales came in at $5.08 billion, both better than the consensus estimate. This news prompted an upgrade from Prudential, which resulted in gains of more than six percent so far in today's trading.

This morning, HCA Inc. (NYSE:HCA) forecast first-quarter earnings between 72 and 76 cents per share Cents per share

and full-year earnings between $3.17 and $3.21 per share. HCA incurred expenses of four cents per share in the quarter, related to costs at facilities that were affected by hurricanes. HCA expects to report fourth-quarter revenue of $6.2 billion and full-year revenue of $24.5 billion. This news was welcomed warmly by investors, as HCA has increased nearly three percent on the day.

This morning, Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ) was upgraded to "outperform" from "inline" at Goldman Sachs The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., or simply Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) is one of the world's largest global investment banks. Goldman Sachs was founded in 1869, and is headquartered in the Lower Manhattan area of New York City at 85 Broad Street. . The brokerage cited the company's improvements in all of its businesses as the reason for the upgrade. Goldman's analysts also upped HPQ's 2006 earnings estimate to $1.92 per share from $1.82 per share, along with its revenue forecast to $91.12 billion from $90.93 billion. The analysts also upped HPQ's 2007 earnings estimate and revenue forecast. HPQ has increased more than two percent after this morning's upgrade.

I guess after all the talk about the company today, I shouldn't be surprised to see Tyco International (NYSE:TYC) and its loss near 10 percent at the bottom of the list. The conglomerate lowered its first-quarter forecast for earnings this morning. TYC now expects to earn roughly 38 cents per share, down from a previous forecast between 40 and 42 cents per share. For the year, the company now expects earnings between $1.85 and $1.92 per share. The consensus forecast 42 cents for the first quarter and $2.01 for the full year. This news followed the firm's announcement that it will split into three publicly traded business units. For a full analysis of TYC, check out today's Options Update, masterfully mas·ter·ful

Finally, we have Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE:AMD), which has dropped thanks to a Deutsche Bank Deutsche Bank AG (IPA: /'dɔɪ.tʃə/[1]) (ISIN: DE0005140008, NYSE: DB) (English: German Bank  downgrade Downgrade
