See CD-R and underrun. ride for most of 2004 with the overall trend moving downward from the shares peak in November 2003. The situation may not be likely to improve anytime soon given that the stock has been attracting a high level of optimism from investors. Call option activity has been quite heavy, with more than 8,000 WM call contracts changing hands thus far today. The number of outstanding call positions on WM already more than doubles the number of put positions. Such a high level of optimism can indicate a lack of potential buying power Buying Power The money an investor has available to buy securities. Today, FLEX is trading a penny lower to $12.64. 1:41 PM More Upside for Anthem? Put volume has increased dramatically on Anthem (NYSE:ATH) in the wake of recent scrutiny toward the insurance industry. Extreme pessimism, however, may help this stock to continue its momentum higher. Today's put volume on ATH is 13 times the average put volume for the security, and as of yesterday, the Schaeffer put/call open interest ratio (SOIR) on the stock had hit a level 90 percent higher than the past year's readings. To round out the pessimistic picture, short interest on the stock is quite high at 12.37 percent of the total share float. If the stock is able to hold above support at $80, we could see more upside for the future of this insurer, save of course a corporate scandal A corporate scandal is a scandal involving allegations of unethical behavior by people acting within or on behalf of a corporation. Heading up our list of most unusual option activity on both the call and put side yesterday, was Harmony Gold Mining (NYSE:HMY). Two 12,500 blocks traded yesterday on each the November 10 call and the November 10 put. It would appear that the out-of-the money November 10 put was written (sold to open) to offset the cost of purchasing (buy to open) the November 10 call. If this assumption is correct, the trader is anticipating that the pullback Pullback A falling back of a price from its peak.
