Slowing the Advance Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE:AMD) had received some favorable coverage from brokerage analysts when one suggested that "new money" invested in chipmakers may be better spent on AMD than on Intel (INTC INTC Intel (NASDAQ symbol) INTC Intercept INTC Interrupt Controller ). An analyst with UBS UBS Union Bank of Switzerland UBS United Bible Societies UBS United Blood Services UBS United Buying Service UBS Used Bookstore UBS University Business Services UBS Universal Building Society (UK) UBS Ulaanbaatar Broadcasting System cited that AMD's valuation may be limited by increasing competition between the two as reason for downgrading AMD to "reduce" from "neutral." Up With People PeopleSoft (NASDAQ:PSFT) has been fighting numerous takeover bids from Oracle (ORCL ORCL Oracle (stock symbol) ), today PSFT received some much needed support from analysts. Wells Fargo analyst Eric Upin elevated his estimates for PSFT's fourth quarter and 2005. Upin also stated that strong performance from the company could force ORCL to raise its bid for PSFT. Adam Holt, from J.P. Morgan also lifted his earnings estimates for PSFT's fourth quarter and 2005. According to CBS (Cell Broadcast Service) See cell broadcast. MarketWatch Holt believes PSFT has an "encouraging product roadmap." Holt still feels that PSFT's 2005 expectations are still "too aggressive," giving PSFT stock a "neutral" rating. Stating that "the innovation engine at PeopleSoft remains alive and well," Harkness maintained his "buy" rating on the company's stock with a target price of $27. Honeywell International According to Hoover's, Honeywell International (NYSE:HON) has its hands in many different pots. The company's largest business segment is Honeywell Aerospace, which produces turbofan and turboprop turboprop: see turbine. turboprop Hybrid engine that provides jet thrust and also drives a propeller. It is similar to the turbojet except that an added turbine, behind the combustion chamber, works through a shaft and speed-reducing gears to turn a engines as well as flight safety and landing systems. Coming in behind Honeywell Aerospace is HON's Automation and Control segment. This segment produces home and industrial heating, ventilation and manufacturing process products. HON also produces performance materials used in semiconductors, polymers for electronics and fibers, and specialty friction materials in its Specialty Materials segment. Finally, its Transportation Systems branch produces car-care products including Prestone and FRAM (1) (Ferroelectric RAM) See FeRAM. (2) (Ferromagnetic RAM) A non-volatile memory that records microscopic bits on a magnetic surface. See MRAM. FRAM - Ferroelectric Random Access Memory . HON's December 35 call makes an appearance on our unusual intraday action chart, with more than 6,000 of the bullish contracts crossing the tape. This marks a 0.35-percent increase from an average trading day. As this shows bullish sentiment from options traders, the company's Schaeffer's put/call open interest ratio (SOIR SOIR Schaeffer's Put/Call Open Interest Ratio SOIR Simultaneous Operations on Intersecting Runways ) shows that there are roughly 20,000 more puts open than calls. HON's SOIR currently stands at 1.43, which is higher than 93 percent of the readings taken over the past year. While this is a sizeable ratio, the company's SOIR has fallen sequentially since resting at 1.58 on November 18. Additionally, HON sports a short-interest ratio that shows 1.45 days to cover, providing little support for a short-covering rally. Analysts are rather bearish on the stock as, according to Zacks, nine analysts rate the company as a "buy," while five analysts give the stock a "hold" rating. This leaves plenty of room for downgrades that could drive the stock below its current perch. On the technical front, HON finds itself riding on support at the 34 level. The stock has danced around this level since April, using it as both support and resistance. Providing further support for the stock is its 10-month moving average. Since May 2003, the stock has suffered only one monthly close below this trendline.
