Well, that turned out to be false and the verdict just came out and wouldn't you know it - RMBS won? In fact, the jury awarded RMBS infringement damages of $306.5 million. As a result, RMBS is up 14 percent, but it's still lower than before last Thursday's drop. It's been a wild few days for RMBS is all I can say. 2:59 PM More Gains for Steel It's been a pretty slow day, as it looks like everyone's waiting until some large names report earnings later this week before making any big plays. The big loser today has been energy, as crude lost more than $2 to close just above $73 a barrel. As you'd expect, energy sold off, with the Oil HOLDRS Trust (OIH OIH Office of International Health OIH Ohio Industries for the Handicapped, Inc. ) down more than two percent and the Select Sector SPDR SPDR The Standard and Poor's depositary receipt. Energy Fund (XLE XLE Xerox Linguistic Environment XLE Extra Limited Edition ) down 1.96 percent. But all isn't lost, as steel continues to do great. Sparking the gains today is a complete earnings smash from Carpenter Technology (NYSE:CRS) that has the shares up nearly 12 percent to a new all-time high. Fortunately, we've got calls on CRS in Schaeffer's Gold and Metals Prospector so today is a great day for that service. Joining in on the fun is fellow steel company Allegheny Technologies (NYSE:ATI), which is up over four percent to a new high as well. 3:10 PM BE Aerospace Up on Better-Than-Expected Earnings I've written about BE Aerospace (NASDAQ:BEAV) here on numerous occasions. It's one of my favorite stocks and is getting a boost today along with other aerospace-related stocks. Today's catalyst is a good earnings report. BEAV reported first-quarter GAAP GAAP See: Generally Accepted Accounting Principles GAAP See generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). earnings of 18 cents per share Cents per share The amount of a mutual fund's dividend or capital gains distributions that a shareholder will receive for each share owned. , two cents better than the Wall Street consensus estimate. Revenue rose 25.8 percent on a year-over-year basis to $247.2 million. The company also raised its GAAP guidance for the 2006 fiscal year to $1.17 from $1.12. This forecast is above the consensus estimate of $1.15. The stock has risen more than eight percent in response. That puts the stock above $29, its highest level since mid-1998. 4:32 PM Netflix Tops Earnings Expectations In after-hours trading after-hours trading The trading of securities after the exchanges are closed. After-hours trading often refers to trading a listed security in the over-the-counter market after the exchanges have been closed for the day. , Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) reported that it swung to a first-quarter profit on a 47-percent increase in subscriber revenue. For the quarter, NFLX stated that net income arrived $4.4 million, or seven cents per share, compared to a loss of 17 cents per share last year. Excluding expenses, earnings would have arrived at 10 cents per share, blowing away the Street's expectations for a profit of six cents per share. Revenue rose to a record $224 million, also besting the consensus forecast for $221.3 million in revenue. Looking ahead, NFLX expects revenue in the range of $238 million to $242 million, and net income of $9.5 million to $13.5 million. In electronic trading, it seems that investors are loving the news, as NFLX was last seen up nearly six percent at $33.10. This positive reaction isn't necessarily all that surprising, given the heavily bearish sentiment heading into the report. Furthermore, NFLX had recently taken out peak call open interest for the front three months at the 30 level. With heavy pessimism, an award winning earnings performance, and a Schaeffer's Equity Scorecard rating of 9.0 out of 10, NFLX could have quite a nice day when the market opens tomorrow. Just to toot my own horn a little, you can read what I had to say about NFLX heading into this earnings report by clicking here. For those of you that read the piece, I hope you got in on those calls I suggested.
