C.H. Robinson Worldwide (NASDAQ:CHRW) and Swift Transportation Swift Transportation was founded by Jerry Moyes originally as Common Market. The operations began in 1966 transporting imported steel from the ports of Los Angeles to Arizona, and then returning with Arizona cotton to be delivered to Southern California. (SWFT SWFT Secure Web Fingerprint Transmission ) ended the day up 3.4 percent and 2.3 percent, respectively. CHRW benefited from positive comments from a brokerage firm. Credit Suisse The Credit Suisse Group (SWX:CSGN, NYSE: CS) is a financial services company, headquartered in Zürich, Switzerland. It is the second-largest Swiss bank, behind UBS AG. initiated the logistics/non-asset based transportation sector with an Overweight saying they believe the logistics sector presents an attractive opportunity for growth-oriented investors seeking exposure to the transportation industry, as these companies typically offer both notably high returns and earnings stability during periods of economic softness. It set a 50 price target on CHRW. The stock closed at 44.18. SWFT stated today that the Special Committee of its Board of Directors has rejected the proposal of its largest shareholder, Jerry Moyes, to acquire all of the company's outstanding common stock in an all-cash transaction at a price of $29.00 per share. That sent the stock higher in anticipation that the company may receive a sweetened sweet·en v. sweet·ened, sweet·en·ing, sweet·ens v.tr. 1. The stock has plunged more than three percent and taken out potential support at the 490 level on news that a negative article in Barron's over the weekend that stated that the shares held an "exceedingly rich valuation." This is bad news for GOOG, as the 490 level acted as some pretty staunch overhead resistance for the equity from late October through mid-November. The stock has even taken out support at its 10-day moving average. With 20 of the 21 analysts covering GOOG rating it a "buy" or better, things are not looking positive for this search guru from a contrarian perspective. 1:59 PM Apple's Run May Sputter Out Apple Computer (NASDAQ:AAPL) call options have become quite popular given the stock's strong upward trend of late. Call volume on the shares has more than doubled put option volume each of the past two trading sessions. Perhaps investors are getting a bit too optimistic on the stock as the equity is down about 1.6 percent today amid strong call activity. 1:06 PM Save Money on Gasoline Don't miss our daily Schaeffer's Fuel Report video, answering one simple question: if you have half a tank of gas, would it be best to fill up today or to wait? The stock has not closed a month above 30 since March 2002, and a break above this mystical barrier would have been encouraging. Today, partly due to the widespread market decline that we're seeing, the stock has breached the support of its rapidly ascending 10-day moving average, which it has not closed a day below since October 27. However, it has remained well above its 20-day moving average, currently in the 29.20 region. We have not seen a daily close below this trendline since July 20, so a breach today might be taken negatively. At last check, MSFT was trading at $29.50, down 0.87 percent. 10:03 AM Ford Borrowing 18 Billion Dollars This morning, Ford Motor (NYSE:F) announced plans to borrow roughly $18 billion by the end of the year in order to address short- and medium-term needs, fund its restructuring and cushion against a possible recession. According to the automaker, the financing would take the form of a new five-year, $8 billion revolving credit Revolving Credit A line of credit where the customer pays a commitment fee and is then allowed to use the funds when they are needed. It is usually used for operating purposes, fluctuating each month depending on the customers current cash flow needs. facility, a senior secured term loan of roughly $7 billion, and $3 billion in transactions that could include unsecured notes that could be convertible into F common stock. This is unwelcome news this morning, as the shares have shed more than one percent of their total value in the first half hour of trading. While this is an unwelcome development, I want to point out that the stock has found a measure of support from its 10-week and 80-week moving averages. In addition, things can't get much worse for F as far as sentiment goes. The firm's Schaeffer's put/call open interest ratio (SOIR SOIR Schaeffer's Put/Call Open Interest Ratio SOIR Simultaneous Operations on Intersecting Runways ) of 1.08 is higher than 92 percent of those taken during the past 52 weeks. In addition, all 13 of the analysts following F rate it a "hold" or worse. This configuration leaves plenty of room for upgrades, which could push the stock higher. Moreover, there is little chance for downgrades, which would have a negative effect. Watch for the stock to bounce off support, which would be an excellent sign.
