Scenic park rivers called "endangered".


American Rivers, a conservation group, issued a report recently naming the top ten most endangered rivers in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. . Of these waterways, two run through major parks. The report names the upper section of the Yellowstone River Yellowstone River

River, northwestern Wyoming and southern and eastern Montana, U.S. The river rises in Wyoming. It enters Yellowstone National Park and feeds into Yellowstone Lake, below which it plunges 422 feet (129 m) in two spectacular waterfalls and enters the Grand
 in Montana, above the Yellowstone National Park Yellowstone National Park, 2,219,791 acres (899,015 hectares), the world's first national park (est. 1872), NW Wyo., extending into Montana and Idaho. It lies mainly on a broad plateau in the Rocky Mts., on the Continental Divide, c. , the second most "endangered" river because of development and bank stabilization and The Shenandoah River in Virginia and West Virginia was ranked fifth most endangered due to "runaway development." The Raymond R. "Andy" Guest, Jr. Shenandoah River State Park runs along nearly six miles of the river's banks in Warren County, Va.

The report urges the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and park and county officials to protect these river through encouraging better development practices.

Other rivers that made the American Rivers 2006 most endangered list were 1. Pajaro River in California, 3. Willamette River in Oregon, 4. Salmon Trout River There are two streams named Salmon Trout River in the Upper Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. Marquette County
Salmon Trout River in the Huron Mountains of Marquette County is home to the endangered "coaster" brook trout.
 in Michigan, 6. Boise River in Idaho, 7. Caloosa-hatchee River in Florida, 8. Bristol Bay Watershed in Alaska, 9. San Jacinto River

The San Jacinto River runs from Lake Houston in Harris County, Texas to Galveston Bay. In the past, it was home to the Karankawa Indians.
