The ICOS patent describes a stereo method for inspecting the coplanarity of electronic components such as BGA devices.

On April 17, 2006 the U.S. Patent Office took action in the reexamination of the ICOS patent, and rejected all of its claims as unpatentable in view of prior patents assigned to Scanner Technologies, Acuity Imaging and Hewlett-Packard. ICOS has until June 14, 2006 to respond before a final action is issued.
