Idit Shner Jazz Group

8 p.m. Friday

Room 178

Saxophonist Idit Shner and colleagues will present a concert of original jazz this week- end.

Tickets, available at the door, are $10 for general admission, $8 for students and senior citizens.

Shner will be joined by drummer Gary Hobbs and bassist Dave Captein in a program of her own original jazz com- positions.

Shner has commissioned and recorded new music and performed solo recitals in the U.S. and Israel. She has recorded with this ensemble on the Klavier label.

The Oregon Wind Ensemble

3 p.m. Sunday

Beall Concert Hall

The Oregon Wind Ensemble, the music school's top concert band, will play Sunday.

The program includes Suite No. 1 in E-flat by Gustav Holst Gustav Holst (21 September, 1874 - 25 May, 1934) [1] [2] was an English composer and was a music teacher for over 20 years. Large bowl-shaped drums with pedal mechanisms for altering their pitch by changing the membrane's tension. The timpani are the principal orchestral percussion instruments.

Constantine received his master's degree last year from the UO, where he was named the outstanding graduate percussion student.

Jazz Arrangers Concert

8 p.m. Monday

Beall Concert Hall

Guest composer and jazz trumpet artist Jamey Simmons will be featured Monday in concert with the Oregon Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab Band II.

Tickets, available at the door, are $7 general admission, $5 for students and senior citizens.

The concert includes music by UO student composers and arrangers, as well as the works of featured artist Jamey Simmons, an assistant professor of jazz studies at Middle Tennessee State University Middle Tennessee State University (founded September 11, 1911, and commonly abbreviated as MTSU) is an American university located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. .

Simmons has toured with the Glenn Miller Orchestra The Glenn Miller Orchestra was originally formed in 1937 by Glenn Miller. It was arranged around a clarinet and tenor saxophone playing melody, while three other saxophones played the harmony. .

OcTUBAfest

7:30 p.m. Tuesday

Beall Concert Hall

Members of the UO Tuba Ensemble and guest artist Michael Fisher will be featured in the annual OcTUBAfest concert on Tuesday.

Tickets are $7 general admission, $5 for students and senior citizens, available at the door.

Under the direction of associate professor Michael Grose, the concert will include music by Richard Strauss, Paul Hindemith and others.
