), announced today that Allen J. (Butch) Goetz has joined the Company as Vice President, Technology Division.

This accompanies SatCon's earlier announcement of its expansion into two divisions, the Technology Division and the Energy Systems Division.

As Vice President of SatCon's Technology Division, Goetz will be responsible for directing the development of advanced technology that can move quickly into commercial use through SatCon's product divisions. Throughout his career, Goetz has specialized in starting and leading advanced development operations that created leading-edge technology which was then successfully applied to practical use. Goetz will also be responsible for SatCon's new office in Tucson, Arizona Tucson (pronounced /ˈtusɑn/, Spanish: Tucsón [tuk'son] , where electro-optics and related technologies will be the primary focus of the facility.

Goetz brings more than 28 years of experience in the aerospace and electro-optic industries. Prior to joining SatCon, Goetz was the director of advanced technology at Kaman Aerospace's Electro-Optics Development Center in Tucson, Arizona, and director of business development for electro-optics and cryogenics cryogenics: see low-temperature physics.

Prior to his position at Ball, Goetz was a charter member of the technology group that established the Space Systems Division at Sperry Corporation (company) Sperry Corporation - The company which merged with the Burroughs Corporation to form Unisys Corporation. Divisions included Sperry Univac, Sperry Flight Systems, and others. Some of these were sold off after the merger. , where he did pioneering work on advanced attitude control systems for satellites.

Goetz has been a key technical leader for some of the most exciting projects of the U.S. space program, including the Defense Support Program (DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive ), Einstein Observatory, Galileo probe and the Skylab orbiting space station.
