Saskatchewan's women of influence: for the fourth consecutive year, Saskatchewan Business Magazine is pleased to recognize some of the province's most influential women. Though they have varied backgrounds and fields of expertise, these women wield considerable clout in their respective fields.


Cheryl Bauer Hyde

A certified financial planner (CFP) in Regina, she is a product of the credit union system. A member of SaskPower's board of directors, she sits on the boards of SIAST and the Financial Planners Standards Council (Canada) as well as a trustee for the province's Community Initiatives Fund. She was previously a member of the Access Communications board of directors, past chair of the Financial Advisors Association of Canada (Advocis) and served as president of both SaskCulture and the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils.

Myrna Bentley

A high-profile member of Saskatoon's business community and the national financial scene, she is president and CEO of Concentra Financial (formerly Co-operative Trust of Canada), one of Canada's Top 50 Managed Companies and one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for four consecutive years. She is a past president of CIMBL (Canadian Institute of Mortgage Brokers and Lenders). Myrna is an active community volunteer and has served a number of not-for-profit organizations. She is the campaign chair of the Western Development Museum Centenary Celebration, and a director of Women's Midlife Health Centre and the Saskatoon Community Foundation.

Pam Haidenger-Bains

A former chair of Saskatoon's regional economic development authority and managing partner of one of the largest law firms in the province, she now handles legal matters for Phenomenome Discoveries, an emerging biotech company in Saskatoon. She has also fulfilled a number of positions with the executive of the Saskatchewan Branch of the Canadian Bar Association including president, was a member of the National CBA Services Committee, and served as chairperson of the Legislative and Law Reform Review Committee.

Rosanne Hill Blaisdell

The fourth generation to enter the Hill family business, she earned an MBA and entered the investment industry before returning to Regina to become a vice-president in the real estate and development arm of the business. Established in 1903, The Hill Companies is the province's most noted privately held firm with holdings throughout North America. Rosanne plays an active role in the community and sits on the board of the Regina Regional Economic Development Authority.

Audrey Horkoff

A Kamsack-area producer and community leader, she has earned a high profile in the province in her role as co-chair of the provincial Action Committee on the Rural Economy, or ACRE, which has produced a long list of recommendations, including some controversial suggestions, for rural revitalization.

Bernadette McIntyre

Although employed as an assistant vice-president at Saskatchewan Government Insurance in Regina, she is best known for her leadership in the curling world. She currently chairs the Tim Horton Brier set for Regina in 2006 and was named the Canadian Curling Association Executive of the Year after chairing the 1998 Scott Tournament of Hearts and the 2001 Canadian Curling Trials in Regina.

Pat Quoroni

This Melfort product is a partner in the Regina law firm of Olive, Waller, Zinkhan & Waller and chairs the board of Saskatchewan Power Corporation as well as sitting on the board of the Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan. She has sat on the boards of Regina Education and Action on Child Hunger, Youth Unlimited of Regina and was a member of the Saskatchewan Municipal Board Assessment Appeals Committee.

Alison Renny

Assistant Dean, Undergraduate and Certificate Programs at the University of Saskatchewan, this professional accountant has extensive experience as a board member including currently sitting on SaskTel's board. She chairs the SIAST First Year Business Advisory Board and is active with the North Saskatoon Business Association and Meewasin Valley Authority.

Mary Ellen Turpel Lafond

Once named by Time Magazine as one of the 100 Global Leaders, this Saskatoon provincial court judge is the first Aboriginal woman appointed to the bench in the province. With degrees from Cambridge and Harvard universities, she is in demand as a public speaker, a rarity for members of the judiciary.

Pat Youzwa

Recently appointed as president and CEO of SaskPower, she has held a range of senior roles in government and business including deputy minister of Economic Development and Energy and Mines. She has been tapped to serve as vice-chair of the Natural Resources Canada Advisory Board on Energy, Science and Technology. She also chairs the Hospitals of Regina Foundation and is a director of the Saskatchewan Institute of Public Policy.
