.r.l for the European market. The device incorporates the Sarantel GeoHelix antenna and STMicroelectronics' GPS receiver.

The European PND market is growing rapidly as new products become more affordable and versatile, incorporating features such as MP3 players. However, their portability creates challenges for conventional GPS antennas, which lose performance when close to the human body.

With outstanding near-field characteristics and an omni-directional design, Sarantel's miniature antennas offer superior wireless performance, especially when close the body. This makes them an ideal choice for the new generation of handheld devices, including PNDs.

David Wither, Sarantel Chief Executive, said:

"The automotive market is central to the explosive GPS growth in Europe. PNDs for automotive use are becoming indispensable tools for business and casual travellers alike. We are pleased to work with STMicroelectronics and look forward to seeing the R.i.CO. PND on store shelves throughout Europe."
