Santen Pharmaceutical Announces Results of Overseas Clinical Trials for Glaucoma Drug Candidates DE-092 and DE-085.


Tokyo, Japan, Feb 15, 2006 - (JCN) - Santen Pharmaceutical announced on February 14 the preliminary results of overseas clinical trials of DE- de- word element [L.], down; from; sometimes negative or privative, and often intensive.

, Santen Oy, Santen's wholly owned subsidiary in Finland, has conducted a phase III clinical trial Noun 1. phase III clinical trial - a large clinical trial of a treatment or drug that in phase I and phase II has been shown to be efficacious with tolerable side effects; after successful conclusion of these clinical trials it will receive formal approval from the  of DE-085. Again, the agent demonstrated an eye pressure-lowering effect, but any favorable result was obtained from a non-inferiority study in which DE-085 was compared with latanoprost.

In accordance with the aforementioned results, Santen plans to reconsider its development strategies for DE-092 and DE-085 in the US and Europe. In Japan, however, the company will proceed with research on the two agents as previously scheduled.
