"I believe that the innovation and entrepreneurship that made Silicon Valley the birthplace of the 'Information Revolution' can and should be part of the solution to sustainable global development," Coleman said. "This summit is our opportunity to join with the global organizations that are leading the charge by leveraging our considerable skills and experience. I urge all of the Valley leaders to come forward to help us work for a better future."

The Summit will showcase what has been done to bring information and communication technologies (ICT) to developing countries. In addition, panel discussions among civic, academic, corporate and not-for-profit organization leaders will focus on the efforts that are currently underway. "A goal of the Summit is the generation of an action agendaCoa series of next steps from a broader policy perspective and from different sector perspectives (economic, political, social) to drive the more coordinated actions of Silicon Valley as a whole," says Pedro Hernandez-Ramos, associate director of SCU's Center for Science, Technology, and Society, and one of the organizers of the event.

Interactive workshop sessions during the Summit include "University-Industry Collaborations," "Working with Multilateral Development Organizations," and "Addressing the Bottom of the Pyramid In economics, the bottom of the pyramid is the largest, but poorest socio-economic group. Bowker, Executive Director, Center for Science, Technology, and Society, at SCU. "It builds on the Center's commitment to researching and promoting the use of science and technology for the public good."
