After the meeting, Sangma said he sought Advani's support on the issue. He said he would also meet President Pratibha Patil. Sangma added that the Meghalaya Progressive Alliance would move the Supreme Court and file a petition challenging the imposition of President's rule in the state. Later, Sangma met CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat and held discussion on the same issue. On Thursday, President Pratibha Patil placed the State Assembly under suspended animation a day after the Central Government's recommendation. The Union Cabinet announced the decision after receiving a report from Meghalaya Governor R S Mooshahary about the breakdown of constitutional machinery in Meghalaya.
