Sanford to chair new committee on future of CPE.

Terry Sanford, former North Carolina governor and U.S. senator from that state who also served as president of Duke University, has agreed to head a special AICPA committee on the future of accounting continuing professional education. In announcing the appointment, Jake Netterville, chairman of the AICPA board of directors, said, "We wanted someone without any preconceived notions for this position, someone who would be viewed by all sides as totally objective. We also wanted someone who had experience in conducting negotiations. We were looking for the best man for the job and are pleased to say we have found him."

The special committee is composed of executive directors of four state CPA societies and the members of the AICPA CPE executive committee strategic planning task force. The special committee, which will study the roles of the AICPA, the state CPA societies and others in developing, delivering and administering CPE, will make recommendations for change, where appropriate. In doing so, the committee will consider changes in CPE service objectives and innovative methods of delivering CPE. The committee will report its findings and make recommendations at the fall 1993 meeting of the AICPA governing council.
