SolidWorks 97 to be CAD/CAM standard for engineers in Sandia's

Design, Evaluation and Test Technology Center

SolidWorks Corp., developer of SolidWorks 97, the first production solid modeling mechanical design system for Windows, announced today that Sandia National Laboratories' Design, Evaluation and Test Technology Center, located in Albuquerque, N.M., has selected SolidWorks 97 as the standard for their engineering desktops.

Sandia National Laboratories is a nationally recognized research and development laboratory, owned by Lockheed Martin Corp., which is under contract to the US Department of Energy (DOE). The Design, Evaluation and Test Technology Center is responsible for modeling, design, fabrication and testing procedures for the majority of projects undertaken at Sandia Labs.

SolidWorks was selected as the application of choice by Sandia's DeskTop Engineering Project (DTEP), after an extensive evaluation of the leading design automation (CAD/CAM) software solutions available on the market today. The mission of the DTEP is to implement a mainstream, easy-to-use production level solid modeling system into various organizations within Sandia. Engineers and designers at Sandia will using the software throughout the entire engineering process, from design specification to analysis and testing, on projects ranging from satellites to weapon systems.
