Sandia National Labs buys InfiniBand fabric equipment.

Paceline Systems Corporation has announced that Sandia National Laboratories Sandia National Laboratories, which is managed and operated by the Sandia Corporation (a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporation), is a major United States Department of Energy research and development national laboratory with two locations, one in Albuquerque, New  has purchased a complete 4x InfiniBand fabric from Paceline. The Paceline products will be deployed in the Laboratories' InfiniBand-based computational cluster testbed.

Sandia plans to immediately begin testing InfiniBand with the Message Passing Interface (communications, protocol) Message Passing Interface - A de facto standard for communication among the nodes running a parallel program on a distributed memory system. MPI is a library of routines that can be called from Fortran and programs.  (MPI MPI - Message Passing Interface ), an interface that is widely used in the high performance computing community and will enable a large segment of applications to leverage the benefits of InfiniBand.

"Sandia National Laboratories is interested in InfiniBand because it offers 10 Gbps bandwidth," said Curt Janssen, team leader, Sandia National Laboratories. "We are constantly looking for Looking for

InfiniBand is an open, cost-effective Input/Output architecture developed by a consortium that includes the world's largest computer companies. InfiniBand interconnects servers and peripheral devices at speeds of up to 30 Gbps using a high performance fabric. InfiniBand delivers significantly higher bandwidth, lower processor overhead and reduced latency compared to existing I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output.

architectures and networking technologies. It enhances the return on technology investments by enabling distributed computing applications and clustered database systems to solve larger problems and process more data with fewer compute resources.

Paceline's family of intelligent InfiniBand fabric solutions deliver full non-blocking throughput at 4x link speeds to meet the needs of the most demanding cluster computing environments. Paceline's intelligent switching systems are at the heart of the fabric. They feature embedded Apex Software, which provides advanced services and makes InfiniBand fabrics scalable, reliable, easy to deploy and easy to use. Paceline's fabric solutions are based on a non-blocking architecture and deliver end-to-end support for the Linux platform.

"Sandia National Laboratories is a prestigious customer for Paceline and we are very pleased that they chose our high performance InfiniBand fabric solutions," said Barry Kallander, Paceline president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "This is one of several significant orders Paceline has received and we look forward to continued leadership in delivering intelligent 4x InfiniBand fabric solutions."

Sandia is a multiprogram laboratory operated by Sandia Corporation, a Lockheed Martin Company, for the United States Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration. With main facilities in Albuquerque, N.M., and Livermore, Calif., Sandia has major research and development responsibilities in national security, energy and environmental technologies, and economic competitiveness.

Paceline Systems Corporation, based in Acton, Mass., is the leader in intelligent InfiniBand fabric solutions for enterprise data centers and high performance computing environments. The company's InfiniBand product family provides an end-to-end solution to data center connectivity challenges and dramatically improves price/performance while reducing operations costs. Paceline's powerful switching systems feature embedded Apex Software, which delivers advanced services and makes InfiniBand fabrics easy to deploy and easy to use. Paceline's products are designed to meet the stringent reliability, scalability and interoperability requirements found in large enterprise environments.
