Sanders receives $5.1 million U.S. Navy contract for four AIMS antenna group systems.

NASHUA, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 8, 1996--Sanders' Surveillance Systems division has received a $5.1 million firm fixed price contract from the U.S. Navy for four AIMS antenna group systems and associated spares.

This award represents exercise of the second option of a three-year contract to supply AIMS antennas in support of the U.S. Navy AEGIS program.

Designated the OE-120/UPX, the AIMS antenna group is a significant part of the AIMS (Air Traffic Control Radar Beacon System The air traffic control radar beacon system (ATCRBS) is a system used in air traffic control (ATC) to enhance radar monitoring and separation of air traffic. The AIMS antenna group is comprised of an antenna, antenna positions programmer and a below-deck control unit used to locate and identify aircraft as friend or foe.  systems which employ mechanically rotated antennas, the AIMS antenna elements remain stationary while the beam is steered electronically to scan a full 360 degrees around the ship. The beam can also be positioned selectively in any direction within microseconds and has a continuous scan rate of up to 90 revolutions per minute.

According to Steve Dichard, Sanders' AIMS Program Manager, this order brings the total quantity of systems ordered by the U.S. Navy to 76 systems.
