Samsung to Introduce Over 10 Applications and Services at COMDEX/Fall 2000; New Offerings Reflect Continued Expansion of U.S. Operations.

Samsung SDS America, the U.S. division of Korea's $1 billion information technology company Samsung SDS, plans to introduce over 10 software applications and services at COMDEX/Fall 2000, held in Las Vegas in November. The new offerings are part of the company's ongoing strategy to strengthen its application software business in the U.S.

Software applications and services being introduced at COMDEX include CADnPart, e-DataCenter service offerings and solutions, Single2000, uniERP2000, REQUBE, Smart Card, uniCheck, Avatar 3D animation solution, and WiseVIEW.

CADnPart offers an e-commerce solution that includes an on-line catalog and parts design transaction system along with supply networks and delivery/inventory management services. CADnPart offers more an E-Catalog service through its XML authoring tool, VcAuthor. Any documents created using VcAuthor display all data supported on existing off-line catalogs including CAD geometry, mechanical parts specifications, and manual prices. CadnPart also includes VcLisp, the first web-based CAD application development tool. It is compatible with AutoLISP and DCL, the development tools for AutoCAD. Accordingly, programs developed with VcLisp can be used in all CAD systems including AutoCAD.

e-DataCenter includes three kinds of service offerings and two solutions. Services offered by e-DataCenter can be categorized into Enterprise System Management, or ESM (managed service, server hosting, on-site operation, remote operation), IT Infrastructure Consulting (data center design/supervision/migration, system and network architecture design, etc.), and Business Recovery Service, or BRS (various types of disaster recovery such as Mirroring Systems, Hot Systems, and Warm Systems). In addition to these services, e-DataCenter includes two unique systems management solutions - UniPark (a knowledge-based integrated system management package for corporate intranet or Internet) and Napier (an integrated systems event management tool for prompt problem solving in distributed computing environments).

Single2000 is a portal service through which business solutions such as Groupware, Document Management System, Knowledge Management System, and Workflow are offered in a single integrated infrastructure. It provides capabilities such as portals, data analysis, community support, DMS, KMS, Workflow for electronic approval/MIS, and PDA/portable phone support. Single2000 will be available at the beginning of 2001.

uniERP is an extended enterprise solution targeted for mid-market manufacturing companies. Current uniERP customers in Korea and China include such industry verticals as electronics, automotive parts, textile, furniture, and leather processing. uniERP helps companies link manufacturing operations to business processes with suppliers and customers by providing such modules as Sales, Purchasing, Production, Inventory management, Accounting, and Human Resources Management.

The added features to the new uniERP system are as follows:

REQUBE is a fast and simple-to-use database query and reporting tool with the following modules:

-- REQUBE End User Computing: Through an easy-to-learn graphical

interface, users can create queries and reports without the

need for complex SQL statements.

-- REQUBE Enterprise Computing: A professional tool for reports,

users can develop a report output program quickly and easily.

Developers can run REQUBE DLL system files in a variety of

applications such as Visual Basic, PowerBuilder, and Delphi

without having to install REQUBE.

-- REQUBE Web Computing: Connects a corporate database to the Web

or intranet without CGI coding. A built-in HTML editor makes

it easy to create HTML forms that display data and update the

database.

WiseVIEW is a powerful and multi-purpose image and file viewer that enables users to view and print more than 100 different file types. For example, users can view 2D and 3D CAD files (AutoCAD, CATIA, etc.), MS Office files, and standard image files without needing the corresponding software. WiseView is attracting favorable responses from the world market for its ability to integrate easily into ERP, PDM, and EDMS systems.

Type B Smart Card is a multi-functional integrated chip card that can be used as an electronic ID/cash card. Possible uses include online shopping, credit cards, disposable entertainment cards, and secure entry into buildings. Given its high-level of security, the Smart Card can greatly reduce fraud prevalent with current non-smart cards.

UniCheck is a portable terminal designed for instantaneous inquiry/settlement of credit cards and smart cards through a wireless data communication network. Average processing speed is about 10 seconds - much faster than standard wired terminals, and service fees are much lower. This makes UniCheck an attractive choice for businesses that involve delivery, transportation, door-to-door sales, or money collection. The built in printer generates receipts that are certified by credit card companies. With its small, rechargeable battery, the unit is very convenient to carry around.

Avatar Studio enables the creation of a "virtual-self" for an online 3D community. With this tool, users can chat and shop in a virtual world. Avatar Studio is a solution developed by Hi-Tech Media, a venture company in Korea invested and incubated by Samsung SDS. As a marketing partner of Hi-Tech Media, Samsung SDS will be seeking to forge strategic partnerships at COMDEX and promote sales of Avatar Studio. Samsung SDS will also be showing examples of building a 3D shopping mall and a virtual community.

WISEnut is a start-up Internet infrastructure company in Silicon valley that is partnering with Samsung SDS to exhibit at COMDEX/Fall 2000. By the end of this year, WISEnut will introduce a state-of-the-art search engine with an innovative ranking system that takes link and text analysis to a new level.
