Samsung Semiconductor, Inc., the world's leader in advanced semiconductor memory technology, today announced that out of 139 DDR (Double Data Rate) Refers to an SDRAM memory chip that increases performance by doubling the effective data rate of the frontside bus. For more details, see SDRAM.

DDR - Double Data Rate Random Access Memory
200/266 devices and modules validated by Intel to-date, Samsung leads the industry with 51 devices and modules fully validated, or 37 percent of the total validations.

"DDR is a crucial element of Samsung's global memory strategy," said Tom Quinn Tom Quinn is the fictional Senior Case Officer, Section D, at MI5's Counter-Terrorism Department, as seen in BBC spy drama Spooks. He was portrayed by actor Matthew Macfadyen until his departure in the third season. , Samsung Semiconductor, Inc.'s vice president of marketing. "These data confirm that Samsung provides the growing DDR market with the fastest and widest range of customer solutions available."

Specifically, Samsung leads the industry in the number of Intel fully validated DDR SDRAM See DDR.  devices in the DDR200/266 speed range by a ratio of 16 to 6. Out of a total of 42 devices validated by Intel to date, Samsung leads with 16 fully validated DDR SDRAM devices in densities from 128Mb to 512Mb. The next closest vendor has six validated devices. The average of all vendors validated, excluding Samsung, is only four. For details please see:

DDR200/266 SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM) A type of dynamic RAM (DRAM) memory chip that has been widely used since the late 1990s. SDRAM chips eliminated wait states by dividing the chip into two cell blocks and interleaving data between them.  component-level validation results:

Samsung also leads the industry in terms of DDR200/266 registered DIMM (Dual In-Line Memory Module) A printed circuit board that holds memory chips and plugs into a DIMM socket on the motherboard. See memory module.

DIMM - Dual In-Line Memory Module
memory modules fully validated by Intel at the system-level by a ratio of 13 to 5. Out of a total of 36 modules validated by Intel to date, Samsung leads with 13 fully validated DDR SDRAM modules in densities from 128MB to 1GB, including a 1GB low profile module specifically targeted at server applications. The next closest vendor has five validated modules. The average of all vendors validated, excluding Samsung, is only three. For details please see: DDR200/266

Samsung also leads the industry in terms of DDR200/266 unbuffered DIMM memory modules fully validated by Intel at the system-level by a ratio of 19 to 4. Out of a total of 41 modules validated by Intel to date, Samsung leads with 19 fully validated DDR SDRAM modules in densities from 128MB to 512MB, including three modules offering ECC (1) (Error-Correcting Code) A type of memory that corrects errors on the fly. See ECC memory.

(2) (Elliptic Curve Cryptography) A public key cryptography method that provides fast decryption and digital signature processing.

memory modules fully validated by Intel at the system-level. Out of a total of 20 modules validated by Intel to date, Samsung leads with 3 fully validated DDR SDRAM modules devices in densities from 128MB to 256MB including one module offering ECC. Two other vendors also have three validated modules each. The average of all vendors validated, excluding Samsung, is only two. For details please see:

Dataquest, DDR will comprise 30 percent of the DRAM market in 2002. Samsung is the world leader in DDR memory with more than a 40 percent market share. The company was the first to develop 256Mb and 512Mb high capacity devices. This, and the recent introduction of the world's first DDR400 modules, fully compliant with the Jedec DDR-1 standard, confirms Samsung's technology leadership. The company intends to maintain this lead as the industry transitions to the next-generation DDR technology, DDR II.
