Samsung Deploys Microtune's High-Performance MicroTuner MT2111 to

Enable Terrestrial off-Air and OpenCable TVs and Set-Top Boxes

Microtune(R), Inc. (Pink Sheets:TUNE) today announced that Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co, Ltd. has deployed Microtune's high-performance single-chip tuner, the MicroTuner(TM) MT2111, in Samsung's integrated QAM/VSB tuner demodulator (ITD). Samsung's ITD is the critical electronics component for providing both radio frequency (RF) tuning and demodulating functions in new-generation digital television sets and OpenCable(TM) set-top boxes.

Samsung's ITD enables manufacturers to streamline production of digital consumer electronics that are compatible with Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) and CableLabs' OpenCable(TM) standards. It allows set-top boxes and TVs to receive, tune and demodulate both digital cable and off-air signals in a single module. Samsung's ITD, model number DTNM2000AIL, is scheduled to be in production later this year.

A new breed of single-chip tuner fabricated in silicon germanium, the MicroTuner MT2111 is engineered to offer the highest performance of any single-chip tuner available today. Targeted to the high-growth digital TV and set-top box markets, the MT2111 addresses the severe, discriminating performance requirements of both the ATSC and OpenCable set-top box standards. A dual-conversion tuner, it packs a high level of performance in a tiny 1/4"-square package, while dissipating only 1 1/2 watts of power.
