Samsung Hosts 3rd Annual Samsung 4G Forum 2005; Industry Representatives from around the World Aim for In-Depth Discussions on the Key Technologies for 4th Generation Mobile Communications.

JEJU, Korea -- Samsung Electronics Samsung Electronics (SEC, Hangul:삼성전자; KSE: 005930, KSE: 005935, LSE: SMSN, LSE: SMSD) is a South Korean multinational corporation and the world's largest and leading electronics and information technology company.  hosts the 3rd annual Samsung 4G Forum 2005 at Jeju Island, Korea, on August 29-30. Approximately 140 high-profile industry representatives from 24 countries will meet to discuss the key technologies for 4th generation mobile communications.

Samsung's 4G Forum is growing in terms of scale and importance. The members of the Forum believe working together can accelerate the availability of solutions and make the key issues that need to be addressed more understandable.

This year's theme of the Forum is "Revolution of Radio Access & Key Technologies for 4G," giving members two full days of intense briefings on virtually every aspect of planning, deploying and managing 4G technology.

Wireless Broadband High-speed wireless transmission of data. What is "high" speed is always a changing number. Wireless systems are typically slower than land-based, wireline networks. In the past, wireless broadband started at 250 Kbps, whereas land-based broadband was generally considered to start at T1  (WiBro), a home-grown Korean standard closely related to the mobile WiMAX See WiMAX and 802.16. , will be demonstrated for the first time with hand-over technology.

"We are heavily involved in the research of WiBro equipment and handsets as well as other core technologies related to the 4G mobile communications. For a successful deployment of the 4G technology, it's imperative that we define the vision for the 4G services and applications that effectively meet the users need," said Ki Tae Lee, president of Samsung's Telecommunications Network A telecommunications network is a of telecommunications links and nodes arranged so that messages may be passed from one part of the network to another over multiple links and through various nodes.  Business.

"I expect this year's Samsung 4G Forum to be a unique and update session, where experts explore and share ideas on 4th-generation mobile technologies," he added.

The 4G mobile communications format is expected to become commercially available around 2010. In preparation, Samsung holds more than 220 patents related to 4G mobile communications. It also has 18 of its members on executive committees at several different industry organizations related to 3rd- and 4th- generation mobile communications, including 3GPP GPP Government Performance Project
GPP General Purpose Processor
GPP General Physical Preparedness
GPP Gambian People's Party
GPP Good Pharmacy Practice
GPP Gross Primary Productivity
GPP Green Procurement Program

Technologies for beyond 3G can be approached either by evolution-based or revolution-based visions. As 3G technology is becoming more and more stable, the time has come to explore and seek out ways to establish common visions for the next generation to come. SAMSUNG 4G Forum was created with this goal in mind. By inviting prominent representatives from different telecommunications sectors to participate in this Forum, we aim to stimulate interest and promote the development of 4G standards, business opportunities and research. This forum will provide industry, academia, standardization standardization

In industry, the development and application of standards that make it possible to manufacture a large volume of interchangeable parts. Standardization may focus on engineering standards, such as properties of materials, fits and tolerances, and drafting
bodies and service providers a unique opportunity for both promoting their own visions, as well as acquiring a balanced view on 4G technology strategies and prospects on a global level.

Encouraged by the fact that some visions on 4G are broadly shared, the Samsung 4G Forum will be committed to carry out its mission: bringing to the table industry experts, academia, operators and regulators to create a fluid and multi-perspective dialogue on 4G. We believe that it would be highly beneficial for all the involved sectors to create, at an early stage, a common understanding of what 4G should be. Each year, the Samsung 4G Forum has a distinctive theme, although the development of the 4G air interface is one of the key topics of each event. A summary of the past, present and future of the 4G forum is outlined as follows:

of the Forum was "Global Strategy & New Air Interface Technology." Four major areas were explored. First, plans and trends of major international and regional standards organizations A standards organization, also sometimes referred to as a standards body, a standards development organization or SDO (depending on what is being referenced), is any entity whose primary activities are developing, coordinating, promulgating, revising, amending,  were reviewed. Second, trends and service predictions from service providers were presented. Third, commercialization visions and R&D development status of large telecommunications manufacturers were discussed. Fourth, a review of the research directions and status of major universities was presented.

Migration Paths Towards 4G Networks

In 2004, with the theme of "Migration Paths Towards 4G Networks" the Forum expanded the realm of discussions by exploring the air interface and access network technologies for 4G. The Forum embraced a number of fundamental aspects of 4G, including worldwide standards activities and strategies as well as development of services and applications for 4G. In addition, the 2004 Forum touched on several aspects of access networks, including ubiquitous networking, ambient networks Ambient Networks is a network integration solution to the modern-day problems of switching from one network to the other in order to keep in contact with the outside world. , mobile MAN and network security. Finally, key features of 4G air interfaces and fundamental technology for 4G were also discussed.
