Greensboro-based Samet Corp. will develop North Carolina Industrial Center on 550 acres in Mebane. Samet hopes the industrial park, between Piedmont Triad International Airport and Raleigh-Durham International Airport, can cash in on the Federal Express Corp. cargo hub planned for the Greensboro airport and attract spillover from Research Triangle Park. The first of the park's three phases -- 100 to 120 acres -- could open as early as January. In 1993, the site was a contender for a Mercedes-Benz auto plant.
