Same-sex marriage: the battle against God and country.

In the fall of 2006, the question of same-sex "marriage," which was enacted into law in July 2005, is to be revisited in Parliament. Homosexualists have come flat out against revisiting the issue; others like the Edmonton Journal (June 6) and the National Post (June 16), ask: Why bother? Canadian society is intact and no signs of societal collapse have emerged, they say. So leave it alone.

The rest of us should take the upcoming vote seriously. Canada is not surviving as you and I want it to survive; instead, we have been slipping into a moral sinkhole. Parliament can begin to reverse the decline. Four years ago, an editorial in the Calgary and Edmonton Sun newspapers (July 28, 2002) summed up what is at stake. The courts [and, I add, the legislators] are attempting to separate us from our belief, it said.

What is that belief but the affirmation of the existence of God? God is Creator and Lawgiver. He instituted marriage--not Parliament, not the Courts. He did so from the beginning of human existence: "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them, and God said to them: Be fruitful and multiply ..." (Genesis 1:27-28).

The commandments of God are not religious fables. They are the foundations of social factors necessary for our survival, factors we may not disregard except at the risk of social chaos. We need to understand that, during the last 40 years, both Parliament and the judiciary have often declared themselves to be the supreme arbiters of law and order. Whether they understood it or not, they could only do so by rejecting the rule of God in favour of their own.

Recent laws concerning contraception (1966), divorce (1967), abortion and homosexuality (1969) began, and mutually re-inforced, the undermining of marriage by striking down restrictions against wider sexual promiscuity. Subsequent lax attitudes (and legislation) on pornography, age of consent, teenage sex, prostitution, public promotion of condoms, and other such measures broadened the impact of these laws. The December 21, 2005, Supreme Court Labaye ruling on group-sex and partner-swapping "swing clubs" illustrates how radically the judiciary desires to abandon Christian community standards. The same-sex "marriage" Act of 2005 marks the degree to which legislators are trying to do the same.

What is central to this development is how State agencies are declaring war on God. Let me explain.

The 1966 approval for the distribution of contraceptives, including sterilization, was the first major attack on marriage as willed and ordained by God. It was interpreted so by the Popes.

"Marriage, then, is far from being the effect of chance or the result of blind evolution of natural forces. It is in reality the wise and provident institution of God the Creator, whose purpose was to establish in man his loving design" (Pope Paul VI, 1968, Humanae vitae #8).

"Contraception is to be judged objectively so profoundly unlawful, as never to be, for any reason, justified. To think or say the contrary is equal to maintaining that in human life, situations may arise in which it is lawful not to recognize God as God" (John Paul II, October 10, 1983).

The 1967 Divorce law overruled Jesus' teaching "that every one who divorces his wife ... makes her an adulteress" (Matthew 5:32). Jesus thereby rejected the Jewish custom of allowing for divorce as contrary to the original purpose of the Creator.

In 1969, Parliament legalized both abortion and homosexual activity. By giving permission for abortion, it set aside the Fifth Commandment, "Thou shalt not kill," its boldest and ugliest defiance of the Creator ever. By permitting homosexual activity, it once again assaulted marriage, rejecting the Sixth Commandment.

(Jesus noted that adultery was not permitted among the Jews. He then said: "But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart" (Matthew 5:27). The outward act is the result of the inward intention or desire. Before God, what counts is the mind, the purity of thought, the unspoilt and clear will. Homosexual promiscuity wars against this.)

The chief product of Canada's judicial and legislative activity on moral issues over the last 40 years is alienation from God. This must be reversed. We must fight back. The restoration of the traditional definition of marriage must be our primary objective.
