Same old boring office party? Not these holiday blasts.

Julio Campos

President, Executive Creative Director Campos Creative Works Inc.

WE hadn't done a holiday party since 9/11, but last year we decided to get back into the tradition. We rented a private beach club, Malibu La Costa

, for a holiday beach party for 100 people, mostly our employees and their families. In addition to a catered meal, there were these huge bonfires on the beach where people could toast marshmallows for s'mores. For entertainment, the opening act was a Filipino Elvis, but the main act was even better: an all-male Go-Go's tribute band called the Ga-Ga's. (pronounced Gay-Gay). For their last song, they came on stage wrapped in towels and wearing (facial) masques, just like the GoGo's album cover for "Beauty and the Beat." People talked about that party for a long time.

I thought for sure that 50 people on a limo headed to Palm Springs from L.A. at 10 p.m.--with food and a stocked bar--would be dead-tired when we got there. But it was as if we never left. Every single person was singing and dancing three hours later when we pulled in. We stayed at Ballantine's, a moderne-style hotel I'm very fond of, for two days and nights. On our return trip Sunday, we stopped at the factory outlet stores in Cabazon so the staff could do some holiday shopping.

WHEN I moved Intermix/eUniverse out to Los Angeles, we rented out Alto Palato for the Christmas party. It was supposed to be a pretty mellow, low-key event. We had just acquired ResponseBase, which was headed by Chris DeWolfe Chris DeWolfe (born 1966) is one of the creators of MySpace (along with Tom Anderson). He is the current CEO of MySpace. He graduated from the University of Southern California. His MySpace account (though private) can be found at [1] .  (who then led the creation of Myspace). I remember that Chris rented a huge limo bus and rolled into the party with his whole ResponseBase team barreling out of the limo decked out like rock stars. The excitement of their wand entrance turned the party up a notch.

EVERY year, Moshe (Tsabag, the chief executive,) takes the warehouse and converts one-half to the employee party. Are we partying among the garments? Yes. It is very funny. I would describe it as some sort of quintessentially downtown experience. It is not glamorous. He hands out the company bonus. He personally hands everyone a check. There is dancing and food. There is a big mariachi band. Last year, we not only had a humungous hu·mun·gous

FOR the holidays, Tadashi Shoji plays Santa Claus and everyone gets a number, and he calls out prizes. Everybody gets like a turkey or one of those big canisters of cookies. Last year, I got a big basket of chestnuts. It is a chance for everyone to be together, it doesn't matter if you are the CEO or the janitor or the shipper or a designer. It is very homey.

THERE was that casino night one year where we gambled with fake money and someone won the grand prize that was real money at the end of the night. It was fantastic. We have also rented the Horn Blower at Marina del Rey and cruised around the harbor for three hours with a live band, dancing and sit-down dinner. This year is going to be a rock-and-roll theme like a disco night. Last year, we had a karaoke singing party. We sang in groups, and if you were daring like me, then you could sing by yourself. I sang "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," "Santa Baby" and "Hero."

THE president would set up a very lavish spread every year with food and drink for 75 to 100 people at the North Ranch Country Club. Santa Claus was there and the employees' kids got gifts. Before Santa would get there, the president would leap about the room pretending he could hear Santa's sleigh sleigh: see sled. . He really poured it on: "Didn't you hear? Didn't you hear?" It was memorable considering what an ogre he was the rest of the year. That generosity was out of character.
