The largest city in the U.S. youngsters to learn math and science, the humanities and arts, will recognize three notable leaders in business, design and education with awards at its Annual Benefit Celebration. Keeping with tradition, Salvadori Center will honor those whose vision and professionalism inspire both their peers and the children they are dedicated to teaching. This year, Founders Awards will be given to famed architect Hugh Hardy, FAIA FAIA Florida Association of Insurance Agents FAIA Food Additives and Ingredients Association (Kent, UK) FAIA Fellow, American Institute of Architects (honorary position) , founding partner of Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates; author David Macaulay, whose works include the PBS PBS in full Public Broadcasting Service Private, nonprofit U.S. corporation of public television stations. PBS provides its member stations, which are supported by public funds and private contributions rather than by commercials, with educational, cultural, series "Building Big," and the books "The Way Things Work" and "Cathedral;" and Cherrie Nanninga, director of real estate for The Port Authority of New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of & New Jersey. The awards will be presented at a Benefit Cocktail Party on May 7 at 6 p.m. at a venue in Manhattan. Four college scholarship winners will also be introduced that evening. "In honoring Hugh Hardy David Macaulay, and Cherrie Nanninga we shine the spotlight on professionals whose accomplishments and standards are truly inspirational." Salvadori Center, founded by the late eminent engineer and university, professor Dr. Mario Salvadori Mario Salvadori (1907-1997) was an architect, structural engineer and professor of both civil engineering and architecture at Columbia University. During World War II he was a consultant on the Manhattan Project. He was born in Rome, Italy in 1907. , uses engaging hands-on activities involving towers, tunnels and bridges as a context for learning. Its specially trained Salvadori Center architects & engineers help teachers integrate topics relevant to students' lives into their classroom. Since 1987, more than 150,000 New York City youngsters have been reached and taught, thus, becoming more successful students and engaged citizens.
