Salvador Dali: The Early Years.

Numerous books have been published about the art and the antics of Salvador Dali, but this is the first to explore in depth the development of his early work that led to his emergence as one of the most popular Surrealist painters. Written to accompany an international exhibition of Dali's work to be seen at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and at museums in London and Madrid, the book consists of essays by four leading art historians and writers on Dali and Surrealism. More than 250 illustrations, many in color, demonstrate the early genius and artistic skill of this important artist. Most of the works shown are relatively unknown and are complemented by previously unpublished documentary material, including his letters, manifestos, poetry and movie scripts. Using varied paper stock, the book has been designed to recreate the distinctive look of publications of the period. Overall, a valuable repository of research and little known artworks from an artist whose work continues to intrigue secondary and college level students.
