Saks Fifth Avenue and the CFDA Launch 2nd Annual Shopping Weekend to Benefit ``Fashion Targets Breast Cancer''.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 21, 2000

Saks Fifth Avenue will kick off National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) today with its 2nd annual nationwide shopping event (September 21-24) to benefit the Council of Fashion Designers of America's "CFDA" Fashion Targets Breast Cancer initiative and local and national breast cancer charities.

Saks Fifth Avenue's Fashion Targets Breast Cancer shopping weekend campaign brings together designers and consumers in a united effort to raise consciousness about breast cancer and funds for research. Spanning Saks Fifth Avenue's 23 markets, this shopping weekend is the largest fund raising event undertaken by Saks Fifth Avenue and marks the second consecutive year CFDA designers will make personal appearances across the country in support of Fashion Targets Breast Cancer.

Christina Johnson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Saks Fifth Avenue, stated, "The majority of Saks Fifth Avenue customers are women, and I think it is particularly fitting that we are engaged in fighting a disease that poses such an enormous threat to women's health and all too often, to women's lives. Last year's Fashion Targets Breast Cancer shopping weekend was a huge success, and this year we are expecting to raise even more money for breast cancer research."

Elements of this year's event include "Portraits of Hope," a photo exhibition that captures the strength and optimism of 19 women and one man who courageously deal with breast cancer on a daily basis. Photographer Sandi Fellman captured the human faces behind this devastating disease showing that breast cancer can afflict anyone -- anywhere. "Portraits of Hope" is featured in Saks Fifth Avenue's New York flagship windows, as well as the other 61 Saks Fifth Avenue stores around the country.

On Tuesday, September 19, Saks Fifth Avenue kicked off the event with a private shopping night party at the New York flagship with over 100 designers making personal appearances in their boutiques. Special guests included supermodel Gisele Bundchen, the international face of Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, Christy Turlington and Star Jones. Designers included Mark Badgley and James Mischka, John Bartlett, Oscar de la Renta, Pamela Dennis, Carolina Herrera, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Adrienne Landau, Narciso Rodriguez, Rafe Totengco for Rafe New York, Kate Spade, Diane Von Furstenberg, Vera Wang and many others who are supporting the campaign.

Local breast cancer charities in New York and each of Saks Fifth Avenue's markets will benefit from this effort. A percentage of sales made during the weekend at all of the 62 Saks Fifth Avenue stores, 46 OFF 5TH -- Saks Fifth Avenue Outlet stores, saksfifthavenue.com and Folio direct mail catalogs will be donated.

Corporate sponsors include Jaguar Cars, Continental Airlines and Donna Karan Hosiery. Saks Fifth Avenue re-created the popular Fashion Targets Breast Cancer t-shirt, which is being underwritten by Donna Karan Hosiery, enabling 100% of the t-shirt's $25 retail price to go directly to Fashion Targets Breast Cancer.
