A Golgo 13 is a freelance assassin who made his first appearance in Japan in 1968; Viz is reprinting re·print n. 1. Something that has been printed again, especially: a. A new printing that is identical to an original; a reimpression. b. A separately printed excerpt; an offprint. 2. some of his greatest hits. The first volume contains two stories. The first, set in the mid '90s, involves a long-range artillery cannon built by the Iraqis. Since the Super Gun is too large to be moved it can only be targeted once; it is, of course, aimed at the White House. Instead of sending an air strike, which would result in lots of dead bodies (the Super Gun is hidden inside a dam) and bad publicity, the Americans send Golgo 15. His mission: infiltrate infiltrate /in·fil·trate/ (in-fil´trat) 1. to penetrate the interstices of a tissue or substance. 2. the material or solution so deposited. in·fil·trate v. 1. Iraq and destroy the Super Gun. The second story features a mobster who runs over the fiancee of a private eye. Word spreads that the private eye has hired Golgo 15, and the threat--if not the actual presence--of this fearsome fear·some adj. 1. Causing or capable of causing fear: "The Devil is a fearsome enemy" Jimmy Breslin. 2. Fearful; timid. assassin is enough to reduce the mobster to a quivering wreck. Sporting a crew cut, Golgo 13 doesn't have a lot to say; his adventures involve killing people and having sex. Golgo 13 won't win any prizes for political correctness politically correct adj. Abbr. PC 1. Of, relating to, or supporting broad social, political, and educational change, especially to redress historical injustices in matters such as race, class, gender, and sexual orientation. (characters of different ethnicities are drawn somewhat stereotypically ster·e·o·type n. 1. A conventional, formulaic, and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image. 2. One that is regarded as embodying or conforming to a set image or type. 3. , for instance), but the stories will certainly appeal to lovers of hard-boiled adventure. I would not, however, recommend it for other audiences. Golgo 13 contains sex, violence, profanity Irreverence towards sacred things; particularly, an irreverent or blasphemous use of the name of God. Vulgar, irreverent, or coarse language. The use of certain profane or obscene language on the radio or television is a federal offense, but in other situations, profanity (f-bomb) and semi-nudity; for collections geared towards older high schoolers and adults only.
