Sailing: Centre lands top award.

LLANISHEN Sailing Centre has been awarded Volvo RYA Champion Club status, recognising their first-class race training programmes for their junior members.

Llanishen is only the second sailing club or centre in Wales to have received this award to date.

``This is good news for Llanishen Sailing Centre, particularly for our youth members, and we're proud to be one of the first sailing clubs in Wales to make the grade,'' said Iwan Basten, Youth Co-ordinator at the Centre.

``The Volvo RYA Champion Club scheme aims to support clubs all over the UK to develop the very best race training programmes for their youth sailors, and to help guarantee Britain's future success at the Olympics and other top international regattas,'' said Steve Joel, youth manager at the Royal Yachting Association.
