Sage Francis Paul "Sage" Francis (born September 11, 1977 in Miami, Florida) is a hip-hop artist based in Providence, Rhode Island. Sage Francis' style blends a varying tone and delivery with subject matter that focuses on intricate sequences of widely varying imagery, metaphors, the occasional  does not look like a hip-hop artist. He lacks bling, bullet holes and - presumably pre·sum·a·ble  
adj.
That can be presumed or taken for granted; reasonable as a supposition: presumable causes of the disaster.

But he is a rapper, and has been since he was a kid. He's also an artist less likely to rap about 'hos and pimps than he is about the war in Iraq, President Bush or his own relationships.

Francis is on tour in support of his second full-length album, "A Healthy Distrust." The show will swing through the McDonald Theatre, 1010 Willamette St., at 8 p.m. Monday.

Hot Club Sandwich

Speaking of "exotic, multiethnic music," the acoustic swing band Hot Club Sandwich will get things cookin' tonight at Luna, 30 E. Broadway.

The band, which tackles the style of Gypsy jazz made famous by Django Reinhardt and Stephanne Grapelli, brings in sounds from American big band standards, European jazz, Brazilian choros, musettes, boleros, danzones and traditional Gypsy folk music.

Showtime is 9 p.m. The cover charge will be $6.

The popular San Francisco ensemble is back in town, headlining a show today at Cozmic Pizza, 199 W. Eighth Ave. The pre-Halloween bash will give folks a chance to test-drive their Halloween costumes a week early.

Showtime is 9 p.m. Admission is $7 at the door - $5 if you're in a costume.

The Portland quartet will take a jaunt south on Saturday for a show at Luckey's Club Cigar Store Luckey’s Club Cigar Store was purchased in 1911 by Tad Luckey, Sr., the son of Irish immigrants and an early Eugene pioneer. It is the oldest retail business in downtown Eugene, and one of the oldest bars in Oregon. , 933 Olive St. The band is on the road in support of the new CD, `44 Down."

Showtime is 10 p.m. Admission is $3 to $5 on a sliding scale.

Eugene Friends Meeting House

Folk singer and storyteller Tom Rawson will perform a benefit concert Saturday in support of Eugene Area School of the Americas Watch School of the Americas Watch is an advocacy organization founded by Maryknoll Fr. Roy Bourgeois and a small group of supporters in 1990 to protest the training of mainly Latin American military officers, by the United States Army, at the School of the Americas (SOA).  and Taxes for Peace Not War.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m. at the Eugene Friends Meeting House, 2274 Onyx St. A suggested donation of $5 to $15 will be accepted at the door.

Hell's Belles

Horror Pops

Monday, WOW Hall

"Go na-na-na-na-na-na yourself." That's what the lead track on Horror Pops' second album, `Bring It On,' proclaims. You'll have a chance to do just that when the Danish-born punk band comes to the WOW Hall.

And the band brings its own go-go dancers, to boot!

Horror Pops is on tour after spending most of 2004 touring with the Offspring.

Warped Tour regulars Left Alone are along for the ride.

Tickets are $10 in advance and at the door, available at the WOW Hall and its outlets. The music starts at 7:30 p.m.

Devin Phillips

Saturday, Temple Beth Israel

Until recently, David Phillips was a jazz musician working and living in New Orleans.

Forced to leave the Crescent City as Hurricane Katrina landed, Phillips ended up in Shreveport, La. Once he heard about relief effort organized by the Portland Jazz Festival to help affected musicians move to Portland, Phillips was on his way west.

Now living and working in Portland, Phillips will perform a benefit concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Temple Beth Israel, 2550 Portland St. Admission is $8 to $15, and proceeds will be directed to hurricane relief efforts.

A second concert has been planned for 8 p.m. Thursday at Cozmic Pizza. Tickets will be $5.

Apollo Sunshine

Controlled rock chaos. That's what Apollo Sunshine promises to bring to the WOW Hall on Saturday with its sound that ranges from avant-garde noise experiment to ultra-melodic pop to rock to punk.
