Safety awards presented to Taylor & Fenn Co. and director at ABB.

Awards for outstanding workplace safety efforts have been given to The Taylor & Fenn Co and Reynold L. Hoover, director of health, safety and environmental services for Asea Brown Boveri, Inc. They are among the first recipients of special awards from the Connecticut Safety Council (CSC), an affiliate of the Connecticut Business and Industry Assn. Both Hoover and The Taylor & Fenn Co are based in Windsor, CT Taylor & Fenn earned the award for making a 66% improvement between 1988-89 in reducing the number of days employees lost work time because of injuries. The company received the Award of Excellence in the over 100employee category. "Taylor & Fenns efforts include the development of a new loss control statement geared to basic responsibility of everyone to make safety realization a part of their daily, hourly concern,"' said Douglas G. Fisher, CSC executive director "They also developed a unique '10 Most Wanted List' of safety improvements needed throughout the plant." Hoover received an individual Award of Merit for sharing his 34 years! experience as a safety professional through a 396-page textbook published nationally in 1989, Fisher said. It's one thing to work in the safety field; it's another thing to take the time and make the commitment to produce a timely and worthwhile book that can benefit both veterans and those new to the field," Fisher noted. inc
