:SFNT), setting the standard for information security, today announced the launch of Sentinel Hardware Keys Real Time Clock (RTC See real time clock. ), a software rights management token that protects software vendors from unauthorized use or distribution of their products and includes a non-repudiated time source.

Sentinel RTC Keys contain a clock stored inside the hardware key that allows software developers to reliably and securely offer time-based license models such as trial, demo or subscription. With Sentinel RTC Keys, developers are able to meet their customers' needs for flexible time-based licensing while protecting their revenue streams with the highest level of protection against time tampering. RTC Keys also allow end users to place timestamps (hours, minutes, seconds) and date (day, month, year) on the output of an application for definitive time recording purposes.

"The availability of Sentinel Hardware Keys with a physical clock increases the high level of security because the key does not need to rely on the users' system time," said Eric Gruenke, Security Analyst at Hal-Tec Corporation. "Hal-Tec was concerned about the vulnerability of the communications pipe between the hardware token and the software application. We considered different products and found the Sentinel Hardware Key to be the most secure token See authentication token.  available particularly because of the encryption protecting the communications."

Sentinel Hardware Keys are the first to incorporate public key cryptography An encryption method that uses a two-part key: a public key and a private key. The result is an ultra-secure hardware token that still offers the highly flexible licensing for which the SafeNet Sentinel product line is known. Additionally, with Sentinel Business Layer APIs(TM), developers can obtain the highest level of security and control over license designs without spending time "Spending Time" is the first single released by Christian artist Stellar Kart.

"We are excited to offer our customers increased functionality with this revolutionary hardware token." said Ken Chow, general manager, Software Protection Business Unit, SafeNet Inc. "With the real time clock, software developers using Sentinel Keys now have the highest level of protection against time tampering in addition to the strongest security for protecting their intellectual property."
