Safe Disc version 3.1 from Macrovision Corp is designed to upgrade its CD/DVD -ROM copy-protection against hacking See hack and hacker.  and unauthorised copying of protected titles. Safe Disc V3.1 builds upon the security wrapper A data structure or software that contains ("wraps around") other data or software, so that the contained elements can exist in the newer system. The term is often used with component software, where a wrapper is placed around a legacy routine to make it behave like an object.  that PC games publishers have used to protect over 200 million CDs worldwide and providing security tools for PC games developers themselves.

Key features include:

* Instance-based security that creates individual new security system for each title, and an improved code masking maskĀ·ing

1. The concealment or the screening of one sensory process or sensation by another.

2. An opaque covering used to camouflage the metal parts of a prosthesis.
 technology which can be used to thwart hackers from reverse-engineering Macrovision copy protection out of a protected application.

* SafeDisc security API (Application Programming Interface) A language and message format used by an application program to communicate with the operating system or some other control program such as a database management system (DBMS) or communications protocol.  (Application Programming Interface) with "Intelligent Protected Functions (PFNs)" and improved interface.

* Expanded Professional Services (job) professional services - A department of a supplier providing consultancy and programming manpower for the supplier's products.  with on-site Macrovision development engineers working alongside developers to produce, highly secure implementation of SafeDisc protection for each title. This also includes SafeDise API training, software installation pack and additional code tools and methodologies to increase the level of protection that developers can apply to their titles.

* New unique signature for each title to foil copying to even the most advanced optical disc burners.
