Saf T Lok Awarded All Claims for its Magazine Lock Patent.

TEQUESTA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 21, 1998--Saf T Lok (NASDAQ:LOCK) has announced that the United States Department of Commerce Patent and Trademark Office has awarded all 12 requested claims for the company's firearm magazine locking device.

"The allowed claims protect a firearm with a detachable magazine designed to prohibit the firing of the weapon, governed by a locking device that controls the magazine," said Saf T Lok CEO John Gardner. "This patent covers any firearm - revolver, semi-automatic, rifle, shotgun, etc., with a removable magazine that has a locking mechanism whether it be keyed, electronic or combination."

Gardner also spoke of the magnitude of the patent approval. "The strength of this patent approval really allows us to secure the future of Saf T Lok by protecting this invention with patenting," he added. "No removable magazine with a prohibitive mechanism may be marketed or sold without the Saf T Lok name and approval."

This patent announcement coincides with Saf T Lok's initial efforts in a nationwide sales and marketing campaign. Sales representatives are meeting with hundreds of law enforcement agencies to demonstrate the product and its application for police usage.

Saf T Lok has also employed a marketing firm to increase public awareness of the company and its products. In addition, Saf T Lok will be represented at the massive Shot Show, Jan. 27-30, in Las Vegas. The Shot Show is widely considered to be the world's largest gun-oriented convention and Saf T Lok's presence there is the first step to be taken in introducing Saf T Lok to the vast international market. The international market represents an even larger market for Saf T Lok products.
