Sacred Shakespeare.

Many thanks to Clare Asquith Clare Asquith, Viscountess Asquith (b. 1951) is an independent scholar and author of , [1] which posits that Shakespeare may have been a recusant Catholic whose works contain code which was used by the Catholic underground, particularly the Jesuits, in Reformation  for her article on Shakespeare's Catholicism ("The Catholic Bard," June 17). Everything Asquith wrote and much more I learned from Ermin Schneider, OFM OFM
abbr.
Order of Friars Minor
, my German teacher at the Franciscan Prep High School Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio “Cincinnati” redirects here. For other uses, see Cincinnati (disambiguation).
Cincinnati is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Hamilton County.
. I believe Schneider loved Shakespeare as deeply as he loved sacred Scripture; indeed, he had us believing Shakespeare was sacred Scripture! May I mention one unique opinion that Schneider held concerning the Bard? He believed that Shakespeare was not only a Catholic of the "old religion," but that he was also an underground Catholic priest! Sadly, I do not know where he published his thoughts about Shakespeare's Catholicism. Perhaps Asquith came across his writings in her studies.
