chemical library against these structures. Based on this technology
suite, Predix has obtained novel, nanomolar-affinity, drug-like lead
molecules against 4 of 5 tested GPCR programs (NK1, HT4, HT1A, D2,
CCR3). Predix has created a suite of lead optimization algorithms
allowing parallel improvements in selectivity, oral bioavailability,
toxicology, and other properties. Predix expects to be in clinical

Company: Trigen Ltd
Workshop: 11.00 Sector Workshops on 21 March 2003
Media Contact: Katharine Harris
Phone: +44 20 7004 2653
E-mail: kharris@trigen.co.uk
Company URL: www.trigen.co.uk

Product description: Trigen has two products in clinical trials
from its lead thrombin inhibitor programme; an intravenous formulation
of the lead molecule TRI 50b in Phase II and an oral formulation of
TRI 50b which is in Phase I. Both formulations are potentially
effective in venous and arterial indications. Extensive pre-clinical
and clinical trials have been completed for both the intravenous and
oral formulations. Evidence from these studies suggests that TRI 50b
is potentially more effective than currently available
anti-coagulants, with a wide therapeutic index, a low bleeding
tendency and potentially no monitoring requirement. Trigen's thrombin
inhibitor could therefore enjoy a valuable competitive advantage over
existing anti-coagulant agents and those in clinical development for
use in the acute, hospital-based setting but also, more importantly,
in the long-term outpatient setting where the "blockbuster" market
opportunity lies. These attributes make Trigen's thrombin inhibitor
programme a highly-attractive potential in-licensing clinical asset
for major pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

Company description: Trigen is a private UK biotechnology company,
based in London, developing novel drugs for the treatment of
cardiovascular diseases, with a focus on thrombosis. Trigen has two
products in clinical trials from its lead drug development programme:
an intravenous and oral formulation of an anti-coagulant, direct
thrombin inhibitor. In addition, Trigen has other programmes focused
on atheroma, thrombosis and inflammation in discovery/pre-clinical
development. Trigen was founded in 1992 to invest in and develop the
drug discovery technologies of the world-renowned Thrombosis Research
Institute (TRI) in London.
