Vinyl vinyl /vi·nyl/ (vi´nil) the univalent group CH2dbondCH—. vinyl chloride a vinyl group to which an atom of chlorine is attached; the monomer which polymerizes to polyvinyl chloride; it is toxic ; plot, author, reader notes. JS * Sachar's compelling novel features 17-year-old Armpit arm·pit n. The hollow under the upper part of the arm below the shoulder joint, bounded by the pectoralis major, the latissimus dorsi, the anterior serratus muscles, and the humerus, and containing the axillary artery and vein, the infraclavicular part , a minor character in his popular, award-winning novel Holes. Armpit (real name: Theodore Johnson), late of (Corrections) Camp Green Lake, is determined to follow his counselor's advice: take small steps to turn your life around; if you take large steps, the current can sweep you away. His mistake is in listening to his friend X-Ray, who is sure they can make a fortune reselling tickets to pop star Kaira DeLeon's upcoming concert. Armpit's decision to join in the plan will affect his life in ways he (and the listener) can't imagine. McClarin reads this wonderful novel with insight, spirit, and deep understanding of the characters. He expertly handles the myriad of emotional situations and adds the perfect inflections to each word. The novel constantly surprises--just as you think you know where it is going, it goes elsewhere--and this production does it full justice. A wonderful treat, highly recommended.
