Sabeus Rounds Out Team With Engineering and Quality & Reliability Assurance Executives.

Sabeus Photonics, Inc, technology leader in the design and manufacture of high-concept optical devices for use throughout the optical communications network, has added three new executives to its roster -- Nathalie Gossett as vice president, engineering, Charles Barakat, as vice president, quality & reliability assurance, and Gordon Li, chief engineer, active components. These executives join Dr. Bill Morey, recently named as vice president of engineering development for sensors, to round out the start-up's engineering management team.

Nathalie Gossett, 41, will be responsible for managing the company's day-to-day engineering and product development activities. She brings 16 years of technical management experience that includes developing optical components for start-ups, to team building and program management at Alcatel USA's optical group, in Dallas Texas. Most recently, Gossett was director of engineering for optics development and systems architecture at Novera Optics in San Jose. Ms. Gossett holds an MBA from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota, and an MS in telecommunications from the University of Colorado. She earned her BSEE from the Paris Institute of Electronics in France.

Charles Barakat, 42, will direct Sabeus' Quality and Reliability labs. He comes to Sabeus with over 16 years of quality and reliability experience from industry and in the military sector. Before joining the company, he directed a centralized quality and reliability department for Ortel Corporation, prior to its acquisition by Lucent/Agere. Prior to that, he served as division head of quality, reliability, and manufacturing for the Naval Warfare Center in China Lake, California. Barakat earned his BS in Electronic Engineering at Penn State University, and is also Dp-3 certified, level III, in system planning, research development and engineering for the Department of Defense (Navy).

Dr. Gordon (Guo-Ping) Li, 44, is charged with the development of active components and mode coupling. He was most recently co-founder, president and CTO of Angeles Optics, Inc, an early stage company. From 1997 to 2001, he was director of the West Coast amplifier development facility for JDS Uniphase, concentrating on advanced optical amplifier products. Before that, he served as product development manager in the indium phosphide development group at SDL, where he specialized in high power lasers for optical communications and CATV. He was also a senior technical staff member at Nortel Networks for 5 years. He holds a PhD from the University of Tokyo, and has been granted 4 patents.

Dr. Bill Morey, 63, joined Sabeus in April, 2001, and is responsible for the Company's fiber Bragg grating development, including telecom and sensor applications. Most recently, he served as director of optical network technologies for Radiant Research. Prior to that, Dr. Morey was at United Technologies, and later served in various positions at 3M, including Technical Director of 3M Bragg Grating Technologies where he spearheaded the development of the Bragg grating operation and brought fiber gratings to the commercial market. Dr. Morey holds a BS degree in Engineering Physics and a M.S. degree in Physics from Ohio State University as well as a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Colorado.
