Sabeus Opens New Fiber Optic Manufacturing and R&D Facility in Freeport, Pa.; Federal Business Unit Will Build Advanced Fiber Optic Intrusion Detection and Surveillance Systems.

FREEPORT, Pa. -- Sabeus, Inc., a leading independent developer of fiber optic systems for acoustic sensing, intrusion detection and surveillance applications today announced the grand opening of its newest production & R&D facility in Freeport, Pa., at a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by guest of honor Congressman John P. Murtha. Sabeus' Federal Systems division will be based in the new 15,000 square foot facility located in the Northpointe Technology Center, 27 miles north of Pittsburgh, Pa.

"This day is a tribute to the progress we've made in creating and building an electro-optics industry in Western Pennsylvania," said Murtha, who was instrumental in establishing the Electro Optics Center. "Today at Sabeus we're celebrating the opening of the new home of another high-tech company attracted here by the wealth of available electro-optics expertise, a skilled work force and an unsurpassed quality of life. Each step we take proves that our strategy to develop an electro-optics hub here in Armstrong County is paying off with the introduction of new companies into the area, the development of new technologies that benefit the nation's troops and the creation of well-paying jobs for local residents."

Sabeus has installed at Northpointe a state-of-the-art fiber optic manufacturing center to automate the production of its proprietary embedded sensors and fiber coatings. Sabeus' sensing systems are designed to meet the stringent requirements of the U.S. Navy for undersea surveillance applications.

"Two years ago, Congressman Murtha and officials from Armstrong County helped us establish our manufacturing operation in Pennsylvania," said Andre de Fusco, Sabeus' president and CEO, "and we are very pleased to have been able to keep these sensitive high-tech jobs in the United States in the face of stiff competition from abroad."
