NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. .

Using Informix leading-edge database technology, Saba is developing Healthcare Imaging Software, based on the DICOM (medical, standard) DICOM - (From Digital Imaging and COmmunications in Medicine) A standard developed by ACR-NEMA (American College of Radiology - National Electrical Manufacturer's Association) for communications between medical imaging devices.  3.0 medical imaging standard, which will enable healthcare providers to improve the quality of patient care while decreasing costs.

This joint development, marketing and sales partnership is a direct result of Informix's sponsorship of the International Consortium for Medical Imaging Technology Consortium (ICMIT ICMIT International Consortium for Medical Imaging Technology ), a leading world-wide consortium whose objective is to support medical imaging standards.

The unique features and benefits of the INFORMIX-Universal Server offer Saba a superior development and deployment environment for the Saba Dicom Sword, a suite of eight DataBlade(R) modules, including those that will natively manage and store CT, ECG ECG electrocardiogram.

Saba anticipates that with this digitized, scalable database solution, the healthcare industry will be able to improve the tracking and use of medical images.

"Today 10 to 30 percent of medical tests are lost in the shuffle of paperwork and aging technology systems," said Richard V. Souders, president of Saba Medical Imaging Technology Corp. "We are working in partnership with Informix to create a totally integrated and image-enabled electronic medical system that will greatly reduce the percentage of lost test results and subsequent retests.

"The new system will also provide physicians with technology that improves patient diagnosis. Only Informix provides a fully relational, object-oriented server, an absolute necessity in delivering these to the healthcare industry, which depends on accuracy and fast delivery of information."

By using Informix's scalable database technology for Windows NT, Saba provides its customers with an easy-to-use and manage, cost-efficient solution that can be deployed in highly distributed NT environments, which are typically linked to back-end UNIX systems Noun 1. Sample Applications

Using the Informix-based Saba solution, physicians and health care providers will be able to examine medical images in more detail and with more flexibility, providing a greater degree of diagnosis accuracy. For example, in reviewing the MRI image of a patient's injured knee, the physician would be able to conduct a search to assess the available diagnosis of a similar image within the database.

Additionally, the physician could examine a 3-dimensional version of the image to increase his or her understanding of the injury -- rotating the bone, viewing the cartilage, color-coding specific areas for further analysis.

One of the objectives of Saba and of the ICMIT, of which Informix is a sponsor, is to make the integrated, electronic patient record a reality. Sabas Informix-based products are designed to be integrated as part of a Electronic Medical Record System that can be utilized throughout the healthcare industry to deliver patient images together with health records to providers around the world.

Many major manufacturers of healthcare information systems and equipment implement DICOM today, which allows the CT, MRI, UltraSound or other varied types of medical imaging equipment to transfer all imaging and image information directly into a computer system.

Saba maintains the superior ability to support the DICOM 3.0 standard by utilizing the expertise of leading scientists who are dedicated to that end.
