Saab wins Renewed Contract for Airbus Single Aisle Ailerons.


STOCKHOLM Stockholm (stŏk`hôlm'), city (1995 pop. 692,954), capital of Sweden and of Stockholm co., E Sweden, situated where Lake Mälaren flows into the Baltic Sea. , Sweden -- Saab Aerostructures has won a renewed contract with Airbus UK Airbus UK is a wholly owned subsidiary of Airbus SAS which produces wings for the Airbus aircraft family. When Airbus was incorporated as a joint stock company in 2001 BAE transferred its UK Airbus facilities in return for a 20% share of the new company.  valued at over 60 million US dollars, for the supply of ailerons for wings of the Airbus single aisle aircraft family.

Since 2000, having delivered more than 1000 units as the long-standing single source supplier of these ailerons, Saab has carried out extensive work aimed at reducing product costs through innovative new design and manufacturing processes for these composite ailerons.

I am of course very pleased now when we are successful together with Airbus, achieving such big savings in real life. It shows that we do what we promise to do," said Pontus Kallen, Senior Vice President and Managing Director at Saab Aerostructures.

With the concept now having reached maturity, introduction of the technology under this latest agreement will reduce the number of parts on the ailerons by over half.
