                            Higher Education
PHOENIX, Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Syntellect Inc. (Nasdaq: SYNL), a global provider of open voice processing solutions, today announced that it has been selected to supply VocalPoint voice response systems to four City University of New York (CUNY) locations. The contract, valued at approximately $500,000, is the largest single order for VocalPoint systems the company has received from a college or university.
CUNY will use VocalPoint to process student registration and grade reporting; provide student access to bulletin board news and campus activity information; schedule admissions appointments; and provide information about financial payments. Initially, systems will be installed at Baruch College, Hunter College and the Borough of Manhattan Community College, as well as the Office of Admissions Services. CUNY's additional 21 universities and colleges will order VocalPoint systems as required.
"CUNY's computing and communications environment is extremely diverse, and the challenge was to find a single voice processing platform that would work with a variety of different hosts, applications and telephone systems," said David Kopel, telecommunications manager for CUNY. "The open architecture of the VocalPoint product seemed to best address our concerns about compatibility while minimizing the investment risk associated with more proprietary systems. Syntellect's proposal was easily the most competitive in the field, and CUNY's experience with the company's INFOBOT product line made us comfortable in choosing Syntellect as our supplier."
"This contract represents a technical and financial victory for Syntellect over the 23 other voice processing companies which were competing for the business," said Tom Mayer, chairman, chief executive officer and president of Syntellect. "This win indicates that the higher education market recognizes the advantages of the open architecture, flexible application development platform which VocalPoint provides."
Syntellect Inc. is a global developer and provider of open, rapidly, deployable, voice processing solutions. Syntellect's VocalPoint(TM) and Premier(TM) 030 systems allow users to access and manipulate data residing on mainframes, minis or PCs via a variety of external communication devices. Syntellect's System/2000 is a digital voice platform which handles large scale call center applications such as pay- per-view. Founded in 1984, Syntellect has an installed-base of more than 10,000 systems worldwide.
