 SYNTELLECT ANNOUNCES INTENT TO ACQUIRE URIX;

COMPANY CONTINUES EXPANSION PLANS, ACQUIRES INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY
 PHOENIX, July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Syntellect Inc. (NASDAQ: SYNL) today announced its intent to acquire the business of Urix Corp., a Horsham, Penn.-based voice processing manufacturer. As a result of the acquisition, Syntellect intends to leverage Urix' innovative interactive voice response technology to enhance its long-term product development efforts.
 Additionally, the acquisition would allow Syntellect to enter a key strategic market -- the telephone operating company and central office environment. Under the terms of the proposal, the purchase price of approximately $1.8 million would consist primarily of cash and the assumption of liabilities. In addition, the company has committed to provide up to $100,000 as an interim working capital loan.
 It is anticipated that the proposed transaction would close on or about July 31, 1992, and is subject to the negotiation and execution of a definitive agreement and approval by the boards of directors of both companies and by the shareholders of Urix Corp.
 "The Urix agreement is part of a strategy of rapid technology development and revenue growth through acquisition," said Thomas R. Mayer, president and chief executive officer of Syntellect. "Over the next months, we hope to complete similar arrangements to complement our foundation IVR technology with industry-leading products and expertise."
 With more than 35,000 ports shipped, Urix has been a consistent leader in advanced voice processing technology since 1982. Urix' products are used by telephone companies and audiotext service bureau operators to provide the high call volume processing capacity required for demanding central office applications such as directory assistance, text-to-speech-based reverse directory assistance and audiotext service bureau operations.
 Syntellect Inc. is the leading IVR vendor worldwide with more than 6,000 INFOBOT(R) IVR systems installed in 35 countries on five continents. Syntellect's customers include Fortune 500 industrials, leading banking and insurance companies, major government agencies and educational institutions.
