 SYNOVUS FINANCIAL CORP. ANNOUNCES MANAGEMENT REORGANIZATION
 COLUMBUS, Ga. March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Synovus Financial Corp. (NYSE: SNV) today announced a management reorganization with the elections of Stephen L. Burts, Jr. as president and chief financial officer, and G. Sanders Griffith III as executive vice president, general counsel and secretary.
 James D. Yancey, who previously has served as president, was elected as vice chairman of Synovus. In addition, Steve Burts will join the board of directors of Synovus Financial Corp.
 In commenting on the announcement, James H. Blanchard, chairman of the board, stated: "The elections of Steve Burts and Sanders Griffith is a very significant step for the future of Synovus. It clearly recognizes the tremendous contribution these two leaders have made over the years. This new organization better defines their individual roles, enhances their responsibilities and creates significant opportunities for others in this growing family of companies. With Jimmy Yancey and Joe Beverly serving as vice chairmen of the company and these new assignments for Steve Burts and Sanders Griffith, we have a strong team of bright, energetic and innovative senior management to lead this company forward into the 1990s and beyond."
 Burts was employed by CB&T in 1973 and was promoted to senior vice president and treasurer of Synovus Financial Corp. in 1986 and executive vice president in 1990. As president and chief financial officer, Burts will continue to be responsible for all the financial aspects of the company as well as acquisitions and will now take a much greater role in the day-to-day management of Synovus. Burts received a B.B.A. degree in Accounting from Columbus College and also graduated from Bank Administration Institute's Controllership School at the University of Wisconsin. Burts is a Certified Public Accountant. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants; National Association of Accountants and has served as vice chairman of the Administration Board of St. Mark United Methodist Church. He is on the board and serves as treasurer of The Columbus Y.M.C.A. and serves in various other capacities as a volunteer with area youth organizations. He is married to the former Joyce Drawdy of Columbus and they have two children.
 Griffith was employed by Synovus in 1988 as general counsel. In 1990 Griffith was promoted to senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of Synovus. Prior to employment with Synovus, Griffith served as outside legal counsel for 11 years. As executive vice president, Griffith will be taking a greater role in the daily management of Synovus and will continue to serve as secretary and general counsel of Synovus. Griffith graduated in 1974 with a B.A. degree from LaGrange College in Business Administration and Economics and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He also graduated Cum Laude in 1977 with a Juris Doctorate from the University of Georgia in the School of Law. Griffith is a member of the Columbus Bar Association; Georgia Bar Association; and the American Bar Association and is a member of the American Society of Corporate Secretaries. Griffith is a member of the President's Council of LaGrange College. He is also active in various capacities with area youth organizations. He is married to the former Elizabeth Williams and they have two children.
