SYNGENTA CONTRIBUTES $500,000 TO RURAL HUNGER-RELIEF EFFORTS.


Syngenta, newly formed from the merger of Novartis Agribusiness and Zeneca Agrochemicals, has announced the formation of the Syngenta Rural FoodShare initiative, a program that will donate $500,000 in 2001 to America's Second Harvest America's Second Harvest is a United States based nonprofit organization. It consists of a nation-wide network of more than 200 food banks and food-rescue organizations that serve virtually every county in the United States as well as Puerto Rico.  and the Canadian Association of Food Banks The Canadian Association of Food Banks was founded in 1988. Funds provided by Syngenta will be used to distribute approximately 15 million pounds of food to hungry families across rural North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. .

America's Second Harvest is the United States' largest charitable domestic hunger-relief organization.

Its network of more than 200 regional food banks and food-rescue programs serves all 50 states and Puerto Rico Puerto Rico (pwār`tō rē`kō), island (2005 est. pop. 3,917,000), 3,508 sq mi (9,086 sq km), West Indies, c.1,000 mi (1,610 km) SE of Miami, Fla.  by distributing food and grocery products to approximately 50,000 local hunger-relief agencies. The Canadian Association of Food Banks is a community-based national coalition of organizations that gathers food for redistribution to people in need.
