SYNCOR SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT TO SELL HOME INFUSION BUSINESS; W.R. GRACE & CO. TO PURCHASE EIGHT HOME CARE SITES

BALTIMORE, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- At the Alex. Brown & Sons 18th Annual Healthcare Conference today, Syncor International Corporation (NASDAQ: SCOR) announced that it has signed a letter of intent with National Medical Care Home Care Division, Inc. (NMC Home Care) to sell its eight remaining home infusion sites. NMC Home Care is a wholly owned subsidiary of W.R. Grace & Co., (NYSE: GRA).
"Our goal is to have the divestiture and sale of our home infusion business completed by our fiscal year-end, which is May 31, 1993," said Gene McGrevin, Syncor president and chief executive officer. "The divestiture will allow us to concentrate on expanding our core business and other new business opportunities, including oncology and Positron Emission Tomography (P.E.T.). As a result of the pending sale, we are highly confident of meeting year-end estimates, which according to analysts are in the range of 90 cents to 95 cents from continuing operations."
Syncor announced it would divest its home infusion business in February. The home infusion business represented six percent of total revenue for Syncor.
Syncor International Corporation, based in Chatsworth, Calif., operates an expanding network of 99 nuclear pharmacy service centers. The company compounds and dispenses patient specific intravenous drugs and solutions for use in diagnostic imaging and a complete range of high-tech pharmacy services. Syncor services over 6,000 hospitals, clinics and physicians' offices. Syncor is the only national pharmacy network of its kind that provides this combination of diagnostic, therapeutic and monitoring services to hospitals and alternate markets.
